The University of Edinburgh hosts one of the largest virology research groups in the UK.

Virology is part of the University of Edinburgh's Centre for Infectious Diseases which brings together basic scientists and clinicians working on infectious diseases in Edinburgh.

Virology Research is concentrated in the Virology Building at Summerhall. Staff based at Summerhall are members of the Roslin Institute and the School of Biomedical Sciences in the College of Medicine & Veterinary Medicine. Virology research also occurs at many other locations including the Queen's Medical Research Institute, the College of Science & Engineering's School of Biological Sciences, the Regional Infectious Diseases Unit and NHS Specialist Virology Centre.

Virology includes a large number of research groups and is committed to teaching the next generation of virologists.
